the purpose of the interpretership is to translate a language into another and thus allows two people speaking two different languages to communicate. that is often seen in an International Conference or quite simply in a meeting as in a court. there exist two kinds of interpreterships: consecutive interpretation and simultaneous interpretation. the first consists in completely reproducing the speech once finished using the notes that the interpreter will have taken during the intervention. the second, however, consists in reproducing the speech simultaneously, either while whispering close to the ear of its listener (this is limited to some people and is located between the consecutive one and the simultaneous one), or installed in a cabin equipped with ear-phones and a console with microphone. these two cases require a great control of the languages and culture of the countries concerned since interpretation, as its name indicates it, is not limited to the translation sentence by sentence of what the said speaker, but it also includes the interpretation of the hidden direction of its speech.
thus, the interpreter must restore accurately and completely the information which it receives. he must have a command of the languages concerned at the grammatical level, including syntax and the style, and at the cultural level. moreover, an excellent interpreter must be able to concentrate well, to have a good memory, a flexible and nimble spirit, to have an open-minded and a degree of intellectual curiosity rather high in order to enrich his general culture that it is on the level of the various languages or quite simply of the culture of a country. this last detail is useful to be able to interpret a speech, such as for example at the time of a debate between scientists, where the interpreter must know the technical and scientific terms as in any other speech. it must also know to restore the small jokes or the proverbs.
formation and wages
the interpretership is thus prone to a formation where the predispositions necessary are on the level of the languages. the people leaving mainstream education with a literary baccalaureat will be thus ready to carry out this task. many higher formations are then available to supplement the various tasks than the future interpreter will have to fill. to make its activity of it, it is thus necessary to pass from the five years studies at least. specializations are numerous: political interpretership, economic interpretership, financial interpretership, scientific interpretership, technical interpretership, and still of other fields as much as there are activities requiring of the international exchanges.
there exists a branch of the interpretership which is made in language signs. this one is useful for the people who are defective on the level of listening or then of the word. this activity is even more difficult owing to the fact that it is thus necessary to have a command of the various languages of the signs which could exist. finally, an interpreter could be committed within an organization, but it will be able to also exert in freelance. generally, the remuneration of the interpreters turns around 700 euros per day, some is the mode of selected exercise.
